Wealthy Affiliate and My (Updated) Journey Here So Far

Updated 24th March 2020

2016 saw me join Wealthy Affiliate as a Premium member and as we are now 3 years further on, I would like to share with you my updated journey here so far.

In The Beginning

Being a mum of three, a daughter now 25 and twin boys now 21, one who has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair. When they were growing up, my husband and I had to rely on our parents to help as we both worked full time. Thankfully we were lucky enough to do so. I had always liked the idea of being able to work either part-time or from home so I could have been there for them while they were growing up.

(LtoR – Hayley, Euan and Gavin)

In April 2016 I made the decision to do 2 things with my life that could possibly make things both better and easier for myself.  I was working on the checkouts at a local Supermarket and staff morale in the store was at an all time low, everyone was complaining about everything and the lack of communication between staff was making me want to do something else.

I had already started looking for new ideas so I could either get back into secretarial work or something like proofreading that I could do from home. I looked at doing Avon or even Kleeneze but as I do not like having to ask people for money, this was quickly forgotten.

As mentioned above, we are now 3 years further on and still working in the  same place, but not in any way forgetting about my dreams of working from home.

Discovering Wealthy Affiliate

While looking online for somewhere to go on holiday, I typed in to the search bar “working from home” to see what would come up and my eye was immediately drawn to Wealthy Affiliate. Not being entirely sure what it was all about, I decided to have a better look to see. After reading Kyle’s bio, I decided that I would give it a try and joined up in the April.

I made the decision to join with the Free Starter Membership only and as I had absolutely no idea what I was doing, decided to do the Bootcamp training. I quickly discovered however, that with the Free Starter Membership you lose all chance to access the help of the Community after the first seven days.

Before deciding to go Premium, I did a lot of thinking about it  and was grateful to then receive an email from Carson saying they had extended the lower cost  of $19 for the Premium Membership. So, although I joined in April 2016 I didn’t take up the Premium membership until May 2016 and have to say that it has been the best decision I have made in the last 3 years.

Choosing Premium Membership

After going Premium, I received a lot of messages welcoming me into Wealthy Affiliate and telling me how great a Community it was. There are always lots of people who are more than willing to give you advice, as well as helping you in any way they can. This can be through their training or by you just simply asking questions.

As there are members from all over the world at Wealthy Affiliate you can  be guaranteed that someone will be able to give you an answer at any time of day or night. There is also access to Site Support who are available 24 hours a day. You can also contact the owners Kyle and Carson by private message 24/7.

What I Have Discovered In My 3 Years

Although I had previously worked as a Personal Assistant and was used to the typing side of things. I had no clue what happened behind the scenes as that was all taken care of by other people. As I had never needed to build my own website or do anything behind the scenes. I did wonder if I was going to be able to do this.

The training in Wealthy Affiliate is second to none. You have the option to follow either the Certification Course, Bootcamp or even both if you want to.  It is suggested that it is better to follow the Certification Course unless you are not sure about what your niche is (what your website is going to be about), then they suggest following Bootcamp which is more geared towards promoting Wealthy Affiliate.

Live Webinars

Every Friday night, Jay holds a live webinar. These webinars can then be watched over and over again if you missed them.

How to create and where to find affiliate links

When I began the training at Wealthy Affiliate I chose to follow Bootcamp as I had no idea what I wanted my niche to be. I found it to be very thorough and beneficial, as well as helping me to understand things I had no idea about such as looking for keywords.  I have to admit, I had no idea what they were talking about as I had never heard of Keywords or what they were when I first joined.

Alphabet Soup Technique

Below is a great video tutorial from Kyle showing you how to do the Alphabet Soup technique. To get a better understanding of what this is plus see how easy it is to do, click on the screen below.

A great keyword research tool that you can access through Wealthy Affiliate is Jaaxy. There are so many things you can use Jaaxy for such as helping you to find great keywords, the alphabet soup technique as well as as checking your site ranking and even finding Domain names etc.

As well as being a great and safe  place to host your website, measures are always taking place make sure that everything is always up to date.

I still have my two websites and my main website All Book Styles is currently sitting on Google at Page 1, Position 1. This website is all about the different ways that we can use to enjoy our books nowadays. We can use e-readers like Amazon’s Kindle plus other devices. If you prefer to listen rather than read books there are audio books you can use. However, if you have problems with your sight then you can use either audio books or braille. Or, you can choose to  just read a paperback/hardback book.

  1. Wow, this is a very nice article regarding Wealthy Affiliate!

I have been searching for something which can help me to earn money online. I tried Youtube before but cannot gain money from there. After I ready your article, it seems that Wealthy Affiliate is a better choice for me, isn’t it? It provides free trail and I can learn all the skills and techniques there. It has lots of free online training sessions and courses so that I can learn how to do online business.

Thanks for introducing Wealthy Affiliate to me. I have signed up for free trial already.

Any points do I need to pay attention?

    1. Thank you so much Nico and I am pleased to see that you were impressed with Wealthy Affiliate and that you have joined up for the free trial. It most certainly is a better choice and you can certainly learn the skills and techniques.

You are very welcome and I am delighted that you have signed up for the free trial. One thing I will say is if you do get the opportunity to go premium, I would say go for it and you can join me and become part of a great community where you will get lots and lots of support to help you even more. You would get your first month for $19 (this is £14.69 /in British money if you are in the UK).

My one point I would make is to do all the training and don’t jump or miss any of them as you could get all confused and take it a step at a time and go at your own pace but enjoy what you are doing as well. It would be very nice to introduce you to all the great friends I have made here if you make the decision to go premium.

  2. Thanks for the article, Cheryl.

Just like you, I also can confidently vouch for Wealthy Affiliate. I’ve learn a lot from their online entrepreneur certification course and affiliate bootcamp. The support from SiteRubix as well as the community is second to none. I hope that anyone who reads this article gets a clear idea of WA and its training.I was wondering how long did it take you to make some sales?

    1. Hi Sethu, I have to say that as of yet I have not made any as my main site is not really one for selling things and my Become Wealthy site here is to promote Wealthy Affiliate and hopefully be able to get people to join us at this great community so they can see for themselves what an amazing platform it is to help you get set up in doing affiliate Marketing as well as creating your own website. Thank you very much for your comment and I am pleased to hear that you are totally happy with Wealthy Affiliate.

  3. I completely understand how you want to leave a supermarket with low morale, hearing the same complaints in and out, I too would strive to build my own successful online business, which by the way, Wealthy Affiliate is a great place to do that! I have been apart of this community for almost a year now, and I have learned so many things that I thought I would never have learned. It really is an amazing experience!

    1. Hi Jacob, thanks very much for your comment and your understanding. I totally agree with you in that Wealthy Affiliate is a great place to learn how to do all these things. I have learned so much as well since I started back in April 2016 and I am still enjoying all the learning and trainings.

  4. Hi Cheryl

I enjoy reading your article. I like your personal approach. As Premium member of Wealthy Affiliate, I can confirm everything you wrote through your excellent post.
My recommendation to everyone who starts an online business is to join Wealthy Affiliate community. First for free, because also free membership offers enough initial information and training.
I wish you all the best on your online adventure.

    1. Hi Igor, thank you very much for your comment and I am pleased to see that you can reiterate what I was saying and that you liked the post.

I would totally have to agree with you on the fact that I would certainly advise anyone who is looking to start any online business to join Wealthy Affiliate, The free membership is great to start with but by going Premium you then get all the support and help as well from the community.

I came across Wealthy Affiliate by chance and I have to say that it is the best thing I have done in joining.

  5. I joined Wealthy Affiliate about three years ago. I have no regrets. I have learned a lot from all the training that is provided and also from the support of the members. One way to use Wealthy Affiliate is to make friends with some of the members and have private dialogs with them via Skype, email, private messages inside of WA, etc. Skype is a lot of fun, you get to meet them on a more personal basis. When I connect with my group we just talk about marketing and what’s new going on in the marketing world. Wealthy Affiliate is an awesome place to be if you’re interested in making money online.

    1. Thank you so much for this Don, and like yourself I have had no regrets either since I joined Wealthy Affiliate. I certainly make sure that I talk to plenty members within WA, mostly by private message, however I have spoken to a couple of people on Skype and have emailed a couple of them as well. I just often wish that there was a way that was easier to meet up but as we are all scattered all over the world it is a difficult thing to do.

  6. Wow Cheryl, you have really gone through a journey haven’t you. You worked as a secretary, secretary, followed by a job at the supermarket that you hated. What I’ve noticed about you and what I like about you story is that given your situation, whenever an opportunity to better your life presents itself, you eventually go forward with it. Sometimes the “hardest” choices are indeed the easiest. All you have to do is take action. Good luck.

    1. Hi Dan, thanks very much for your comment and yes it has been a journey. My job as a Secretary I loved and thought I was there for life so it was a massive shock to go in one day and be told that they were upgrading my job and because I didn’t drive it wasn’t worth my time reapplying. Then I started in the supermarket job which was only meant to be a stop gap till I got another Secretarial job and as of the 20th October 17 I have now been there 16 years. I don’t actually hate the job, but always wanted to get back into secretarial duties. I have been here now over 1 year and have learned so much and have enjoyed my time here as well. It certainly has been the easiest and best decision I have taken. This is a great community to be part of. xxx
